  2. Reasons • An expository prompt always asks you to write or give reasons why. • When you write in the expository mode, quickly think of three reasons why. • The reason is the triangle of your plan. • An expository writing piece should contain three reasons why.

  3. Reasons • Reasons are important. • If you do not give reasons in an expository writing piece, the paper will be scored a 1 or 2. • Remember an expository prompt asks you to give reasons why.

  4. Expository Plan • reason reason reason • For the elaboration or the circles, write an example, use figurative language such as: Metaphor Hyperbole Idiom Onomatopoiea Simile Personification

  9. HOOK THE READERCOME ON READ ME! • topic------a bad fall • The most talked about accident in history is the break of a simple egg. While many tried attempted to put the egg back together, the effort was useless. Humpty Dumpty splintered into a million pieces. • YOU CAN MAKE UP SOMETHING INTERESTING.

  10. Reason # 1 • First of all, Humpty Dumpty • toppled from the a stone wall because of the curved surface of his bottom. For example, HD has a round roly posterior. Like the moon sitting in the night sky, HD arcs. The simple, sloped edge makes sitting an unstable act.

  11. Reason # 2 • In addition to a roly poly bottom, the accident occurred when a bird zigzagged through the air just above HD’s head. Mr. Dumpty glanced up as the flying creature tried to peck at his shiny white shell. HD did not want to have a major headache from the rat-a-tat-tat of the strong beak of the woodpecker.

  12. Reason # 3 • Last but not least, Humpty leaned one way and then the other trying to balance himself. The more he attempted to become steady the more he wobbled. As HD tipped one way and then the other, he wished for hand rails to grab a hold of to help. But a last, he realized that he was doomed.

  13. Conclusion • All in all, the community gathered to aid the most famous egg of all time. The accident ruined everyone’s day.

  14. Expository PromptThink of a time when you had a bad day. Explain how the day went. Give reasons why it was a difficult day. • topic---bad day---over the moon • wolf no help get away • prowling dish/spoon jump • monster laughing light as air • keep hide disappointed safe place • conclusion--------turned out good
