  2. Climate • Winters in south Africa occur between June and August • The southwest has a climate remarkably similar to that of the Mediterranean with wet winters and hot , dry summers

  3. Economy • South Africa has a mixed economy • A high rate of poverty and low GDP per capita • Unemployment is high

  4. Religion • Christians accounted for 79.8% the population • Muslims accounted 1.5% • Hindus accounted 1.2%

  5. Foods • Typical south African foods • Biltong- salty dried meat • Boerewors- a sausage • Bunny chow curry- stuffed into a hollowed out loaf of bread also called kota

  8. Arts • The Zulu are best know for their beadwork and basketry. • There have also been some figural sculpture questionably attributed to them • Zulu architecture is quite complex and the dress or fashion of the Zulu has been carefully studied

  9. Religion • Zulu people state their beliefs to be Christian • African traditional religion • Zulu religion includes belief in a creator god (nkulunkulu)

  10. Social structure/hierarchy • 16th century Zulu migrated southward to their present location

  11. Economy/resouces • Rural Zulu raise cattle and farm corn and vegetables for subsistence purposes • Women do most , if not all of the planting and harvesting • In urban areas of south Africa ,Zulu , are limited to labor intensive work and domestic duties
