JIT – JUST IN TIME MANUFACTURING • JIT is viewed as an integrated management system. Differed in mgt. practices by plant’s characteristics. • Initially introduced for the Toyota production system (Japanese approach). • Based on 2 principles elimination of all waste (time, materials, labor & equipment) in the production cycle. empowering workers.
More about JIT • The management practices associated with JIT systems: focused factory, reduced set-up times, group technology, total productive maintenance, multifunction employees, uniform workloads, JIT purchasing, total quality control. • JIT purchasing, considered as an integral part of JIT. • It allows a manufacturer to eliminate waste in the upstream portion of the manufacturing cycle. (from supplier’s). • It focuses on the reduction of inventories. Provides a careful audit of the production process.
HOW IT CARES??????????? • Optimization of supplier and customers. • Materials are to be supplied just in time, which focuses on supply & demand. • Production costs will decrease, if stock level is reduced. (Capital Lock) • Market risks are reduced in supply chain bcoz of material ordered only, if prodn. lant sells. • Quality Control of production is enhanced. All stages of production are closely monitored. --- Through I-Way, to achieve JIT savings, large corpns. Installed n/w’s.
QUICK RESPONSE RETAILING (QR) • QR is a version of JIT purchasing tailored for retailing. • Ex: excess inventories, inadequate information, related inefficiencies results in loss. • To avoid the risk out of stock retailers moved to QR system. • It creates a closed loop encompassing the retailer, vendor, and consumer chain, and as the consumers make purchases the vendor automatically orders new deliveries from the retailer through its computer n/w.
WORKS.. :^:^:^:^:^: • The bar coded articles are logged by the cash register @ the point of sale. • the inventory system of the store then determines the needed supply, and the system transmits an order message to the retailer.
USES: • It provides for a flexible response to product ordering and lowers costly inventory levels • QR retailing focuses on market responsiveness while maintaining low levels of stocks.
