  5. Established Expectations • More equal mix of men and women • Representative of the age spectrum • Representative of racial and ethnic groups • Current patients, family members of patients, or members of the community • Hospital members – new to committee or new to the hospital staff

  6. Carney Serves a Rich & Diverse Community The neighborhoods of Dorchester, Mattapan and Hyde Park are home to growing Hispanic and Asian populations, along with a vibrant Black community that includes African Americans, Caribbean immigrants and African immigrants. Source: www.census.gov

Targeted Membership Drive • Actively used community contacts to identify potential members • Solicited individuals already involved with Carney Hospital • Solicited family members of existing patients • Invited several existing members to continue • Elected hospital members committed to Carney and the greater Dorchester community

  8. New Community Membership • 3 men, 7 women • Aged late 30s to 60+ years • Residing in Dorchester, Mattapan, Boston, Quincy • Several patients and/or family of patients • Disabled person • All community members • African American • Haitian Creole • Irish American • Hispanic

Hospital Membership • Director, Quality & Patient Safety • Manager, Community Health • External Affairs/Community Advocacy/Patient Advocate • Director, Rehabilitation Services • Director, Physician Practice Operations • Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) • Spiritual Care Services • Chief Operating Officer (COO), ad hoc • Chief Executive Officer (CEO), ad hoc

  10. Plans for the Future • Vietnamese membership • Younger members: 25-35 years • Additional male members • Participation of front line staff
