  3. Urine Specimen • Urine specimen is one of the most common specimens. It is used in laboratory tests.

  4. Midstream Specimen • Midstream Specimen is Urine specimen that is free from contamination. Why? • Microorganisms are on the genital area and on the containers.

  5. Steps For Taking Urine Specimen • 1. Specimen is usually taken in the morning. Why? • The urine is more concentrated in the morning then when you start to eat lunch later that day. • 2. It is then collected in a bedpan. Afterwards pored into a specimen container. • 3. The specimen is then sent to the lab. IF NOT refrigerate the specimen until it can be sent. • 4. Last Step: You wash the container with soap and water and rinse and dry to finish.

  6. 24 Hour Urine Specimen • All the urine that is made by the patient during 24 hours MUST be saved.

  7. Routine Stool Specimen • Routine stool specimen is used to check for ova and parasites. • Ova and parasites is commonly known as eggs and worms

  8. Occult Blood • Blood that comes from areas of the intestinal tract. That is found In your stool. • Only requires a small amount to due this test.
