2nd Planning Meeting of the Carpathian Sustainable Learning Network (CASALEN) Production of the Training Tool Kit on ESD in the Mountain Areas Trencin, Slovakia28-30 January, 2009
Objectives • To decide on the contents of the toolkit • To divide responsibilities on the production of the toolkit • To finalize the draft schedule of the toolkit development/production • To produce the budget for the tool kit production • To decide on the details of testing the toolkit during the Teacher Trainings in Romania • To decide on the use of the Internet platform for follow-up
Components • An Internet platform for cooperation • An Informative and interactive training tour in Romania • A Training Tool Kit on ESD in the Mountain Areas
The Tool Kit Recommendations: The most important objective of the tool kit is to provoke “critical thinking” – encourage both teachers and students to think critically about what is valuable to them in their surroundings, what problems exist, and how they could approach those problems.
Possible “Mountain” Issues(based on the contents of the Carpathian Convention) • Article 4: Conservation and sustainable use of biological and landscape diversity • Article 5: Spatial planning • Article 6: Sustainable and integrated water/river basin management • Article 7: Sustainable agriculture and forestry • Article 8: Sustainable transport and infrastructure • Article 9: Sustainable tourism • Article 10: Industry and energy • Article 11: Cultural heritage and traditional knowledge
The Tool Kit Recommendations:some other issues to consider • CLIMATE CHANGE • World Environment Day 2009: • “UNite to combat climate change” • Gender issues • Tourism • Experience/examples from the Alpine/Caucasus countries
The Tool Kit Recommendations: • used as a unifying idea, but flexible • Adaptable to students of both lower and higher grades • “Multimodel” adaptable to other regions: • (Alps/Caucasus)
The Carpathian Tool Kit:“Design a Carpathian nature/cultural trail” • the transport to/through the trail • natural resources • cultural components • local products • environmental problems
The Tool Kit Recommendations: • target teachers of a number of disciplines, suchas: • Biology • Geography • Crafts • English/other foreign languages • Physical education • Interdisciplinary components
