  1. “Why don’t you ‘act black’?” Since my middle school years, I’ve been asked this question more than any other. It seems to me that too many people have let society program into their brains what should be expected of me, a black person, before ever interacting with me. But I believe in being who I am, not who others want me to be. In class, we agreed that this was a good introduction. The first highlighted portion captures the reader’s attention because it is honest and shocking. The second highlighted portion clearly states what the person believes before they moved onto the body of the essay.

  2. What if everyone in the world was exactly alike? What if everyone talked the same, acted the same, listened to the same music, and watched the same T.V. programs? The world would be extremely dull! I believe it’s important to accept people for who they are. What do you think about this introduction?

  3. I believe that how someone acts in person is more important than what opinions he or she might hold. I believe judgments should be based on what is relevant and applicable. So I judge acquaintances by how they act around me, not by their viewpoints which barely affect me. What do you think about this introduction?

  4. The keys to an amazing INTRODUCTION: The hook-Capture the reader’s attention from the very beginning! If the begging is boring or lackluster, you can’t expect your audience to be excited for the rest of the essay. many people achieve this by starting with a quote, a question, a quotation of something profound someone said, etc… Exposition-Provide the reader with some sort of context. Your reader must understand the general background information of the essay so that your paper is cohesive.Do NOT give away too many details in the introduction. 3. Thesis-In this case, your thesis is what you BELIEVE. It should be clear as to what you believe and the overarching topic/focus of your paper. This should be simple and easy to understand.
