Library Book Search Presented by Paige Senn Library Media Specialist Verde Vale Elementary
This presentation will cover the following items. • What the lesson was. • How the lesson was presented. • How the students performed. • Summary.
The Lesson Students at our school need to know how to use the Follett OPAC book search program. This lesson was designed to teach them the differences between fiction and nonfiction and how to find the books on the shelf using OPAC. The students could click on different web sites to learn more about the Dewey Decimal System. A simple worksheet was designed to help in the learning process. A pretest and post test was given to see how the students performed.
Lesson PresentationA pretest was given to see what the students knew.
Lesson PresentationAfter some discussion students took the worksheet activity to the computer and began the learning process.
Lesson PresentationThrough the activity and some help from me, the students were able to go to the shelf and find the book.
Lesson PresentationThe post test was given to see what the students had learned.
Students’ Performance As you can see, all the students showed growth.
Summary I already do this lesson with the students, but usually one on one with no activities. Now that I have actually made it into a formal lesson, I plan to use it with each fourth and fifth grade class at the beginning of each year and with the third grade when I feel it is appropriate.
Summary The students really enjoyed this lesson and went beyond what I asked of them. They found book after book. I finally had to ask them to quit because we were out of time!!!
