  1. B-field sensitive componentsTB 23.2.04 L.Jirden • Estimated B-fields in UX • B-field tests done • Sensitive components in UX • Summary

  2. B-field in UX – worst case (D.Swoboda TB 27.1.04) Rack group A and B: ~ 110 Gauss Rack group D: ~ 200 Gauss

  3. B-field in UX – worst case (D.Swoboda TB 27.1.04) Rack group C: ~ 50 Gauss

  4. B-field tests • Very few tests done so far • Power supplies (B.Allongue, ESS group): • Standard Wiener PL500 - non-shielded • Wiener Marathon PS – shielded (under development) • VME fan-tray (B.Allongue, ESS group) • Ethernet (T.Krawutschke, KIP, Heidelberg) • Transceivers

  5. Fan restarts Fan stops B-field tests: PL500 • Power module fan: • PAPST 614MN • This fan is used to cool the single power modules type MEH

  6. Fan restarts Fan stops B-field tests: PL500 • Power module fan: • NMB 1606 KL • This fan is used to cool the double power modules type MDL.

  7. B-field tests: PL500

  8. B-field tests: Marathon • Shielded power modules:

  9. B-field tests: Marathon

  10. B-field tests • VME fan tray • Behaves similar to PAPST 614MN: max 80 Gauss tolerated • Ethernet transceiver • Vacor PT4153S transformer chip tested • Operation depends on orientation; in worst direction all traffic stops at: ~200-220 Gauss

  11. Which devices are sensitive to B-field? • Any device containing • Ventilators • Transformers • Filters • Relays

  12. Sensitive components in UX

  13. Sensitive components in UX

  14. Summary • Refine B-map - make more stray field measurements • –At critical rack locations, outside/inside racks • Plan rack layouts in view of water cooling only (racks without ventilator units) • Test • Alternative fans, fans inside power box, CAEN, AREM Pro, PLC’s, Ethernet, pulser equipment, laser equipment, etc. • Move sensitive equipment to less exposed racks wherever possible • Other devices? - input from all detectors required!
