Confident: Had fought polio & won • Wanted to reform • capitalism not get rid of it, • like the Progressives • 3. Eleanor helped him • 4. Dem w/ D. Sen & D. House • Motto: • “A New Deal for America” • with programs to relieve the Great Depression & reform economics • Great Engineer: Good • with #’s and figures • 2. Stubborn & rigid • Humanitarian • 4. Rep w/ Dem congress • Motto: • “Rugged Individualism” NO federal support, NO private charity, & NO individual help That was a low blow F.D. -Lamo! Just cause the ladies like you doesn’t mean you can save the US! Let’s do this! Oh Its already been broughten! Bringit you Sally!

  5. How HOOVER handles the G.D… • Convinced business NOT to cut payrolls 2. Convinced labor NOT to ask for higher wages 3. Ordered Federal reserve Board to make borrowing easier 4. Set aside $800 million for public works 5. Passed the Home Loan Bank Act so people could pay for mortgages 6. Est. Reconstruction Finance Corporation to give loans to banks, RR’s, Industry (guess who it benefits!?!) 7. LOVED the trickle down theory!

How FDR handles the G.D… The New Deal • Wanted to bring American Gov’t into the lives of every American…this had never happened before! • What is the New Deal? • Provides welfare & relief to American citizens • 50% of pop took advantage • 2 New Deals: 1st: RELIEF to RECOVERY (1933) $, Immediate jobs, Food 2nd: REFORM Redo gov’t and economy Reform Capitalism

  7. Hoover’s Biggest Blunders… 1. Bonus Army Shooting – WWI vets supposed to get $500 each…they want it now! He sends in the army to put them down…a baby dies! (and 2 veterans) • “Hoover – everythings” villes – shantytowns Flags – pockets blankets - newspapers Hence… He Sucks!
