Expected Performance • For our Type A BPM in 2D simulation, comparing the 12mm and 20mm diameter pickups vertically, the charge collected on each plate is in the ratio of ~1:1.7, and horizontally ~1:1.6 • Using 20mm diameter pickups, from experience with other systems, this equates to the possibility to resolve ~16pC of charge to the specification required vertically, and ~25pC of charge Horizontally. • Less charge can be resolved by data acquisition techniques. • Less charge means poorer resolution. EBPM Pickup Button Design Proposed Feed-throughs are bought in 50 Ohm items with pickup plates later attached and Welded into BPM block units. Must design/model feed-through to have low Capacitance (less than 1.5 pF). To achieve this, it may be simpler to buy in BPM buttons (e.g. KYOCERA, PMB Metaceram). Design Review Workshop EMMA/CONFORM
EBPM Detector Electronics Based on ‘in-house’ synchronous detector with bought in ADC and fast data handling. This type of system will Require development. Mounted Locally To EBPM Pickup Design Review Workshop EMMA/CONFORM
Summary • There are many issues and details still to resolve for the mechanical design and layout of the EBPMs. • Optimisation of electronic detector still to be performed. • We have confidence that the system should resolve approximately 70% less than the 80pC charge specified. • Is this adequate for what CONFORM is required to do?
