Steps in layout F A C I L I T Y – P L A N N I N G • After receiving the floor plan, the process follows as : • Assess the entry points and exits if required • Without assuming the pillars, draw your layout • If the pillars are bigger constraints, then change the layout • Try to hide pillars or merge within the gondolas • Divide the gondola rows with the standard measurements • If the odd size measure of gondola is inevitable, replace it • Try and keep the aisle space as per the standards • Divide aisles into major and minor • Allocate areas for dump bins/ dump displays • Keep at least 20% area for the check out section • Of this 20%,10% should be vacant before & after the check out • Maximize gondola ends/end caps • Maximize wall racks • Number the racks • Allocate the category as per the stock density • Allocate the sub category • Allocate the SKU
