  1. Summer Camp 2009 When Dreams come true…

  2. Diema’s Dream Summer Camp was open again in June 2009! We would like to express our gratitude to the management of Psycho Neurological Orphanage for disabled adults #11in Moscow for support and cooperation! Fourteen children lived at the Camp, attended to by six assistant-volunteers from June until September 2009.

  3. The conditions were so terrific that the children felt completely at home. That feeling is hard to show by photos and videos, but we could see it every day in the expressions of their faces. • After two weeks in the camp we have a lot to report:

  4. Vitalik • Vitalik is walking with the help of baby jumper and can move around on his own. He is also eating and drinking on his own. In Psycho Neurological Orphanage for disabled adults #11for adults, where Vitalik lives, no one knew about his abilities therefore he did not use baby jumperthere and did not eat on his own. We hope that he will now become more independent in his daily life after this story and pictures taken of him.

  5. Vitalik • Vitalik is already making a second puzzle out of 500 pieces! • It’s so wonderful that after two years of having no lessons he remembers how to do it!

  6. Vitalik • Vitalik’s mother visited the Camp. • She learned how much her son can achieve and decided to take Vitalik home for the weekend during the year. • She has not been doing so for 20 years and Vitalik is already 23 years old.

  7. Zhenya • We gave Zhenya a new wheelchair that meets his needs. He is learning how to use his right hand and to sit straight. The previous wheelchair was too big for him, which made his hand uncomfortable while sitting. • Zhenya is not using a diaper during the day and informing us of his need to use the bathroom. The inflammation of the groin area is disappearing thanks to this ability. • New words and full sentences appear in his speech. We are reading aloud to children a lot and a speech therapist comes several times a week.

  8. Lisa • Lisa enjoys lessons a lot. She likes to draw, work on a puzzle and play in the sand box. She gradually starts using her second hand and is taking a shower on her own.

  9. Olya • Olya is learning how to play a ball on a team. It is not a simple task when the players have different abilities. • She talks more and she improved her speech

  10. Olya Olya helps us with the housework: • She makes beds for those children who have difficulties doing it themselves. • She is learning how to make salads, feeds Vitalik if he is tired and scolds Vanya if he is naughty.

  11. Masha • Mariya makes us happy with her smile. • Every day she paints a new rainbow. • She helps Olya in the kitchen and teaches us how to dance during the morning exercise and to appreciate life just because a new day begins.

  12. Vanya • Ivan is not using speech for communication. We are using drawings for him and for other children (timetable for the day, simple verbs: to drink, to eat, to sleep, to play, bathroom). • We are going to give a set of drawings as a present to all the children at the camp. Sometimes we don’t have an opportunity to understand what specifically a child needs if he does not talk. Thanks to the drawings, the child can show us what he needs.

  13. Without exception, all the children have shown improvement in the condition of their skin. • Taking showers every day and brushing their teeth gave a great result. • Unfortunately, they don’t have an opportunity in Psycho Neurological Orphanage for disabled adults #11where they have access to showers only once per week.

  14. The children of our colleagues came here at the beginning of the Summer Camp. • They are from six to nine years old. It’s a special experience for everyone here. • Our children are very happy when these girls and boys play with them and learn about other children’s needs and abilities.

  15. We walk a lot, organize picnics, swim in the pool and sunbathe if the weather permits.
