  16. Physical Set-up Room 1604, 1606, or 1608 Long tables along the walls for food and beverages 8-10 round tables with 6 chairs at each Good-sized space in the middle for performances or role-playing Technology Needed Laptop with Power Point Clickers for taking instant polls Microphones (one at each table and wireless ones for guest speakers) Journey to the Bachelor’sDegree Seminar Characteristics Speaker: Shan Hussain

  17. Methods of Delivery Various Guest Speakers from the college Lecture for a fraction of the time Two-Way Discussion lots of the time Small group projects and discussions at the tables Power Point Ways to drive home important information Students do not want pure lecture The most important information must be internalized by the students Role-playing, fun exercises, guided discussion, film clips, and plenty of old-fashioned communication will be best Journey to the Bachelor’sDegree Seminar Characteristics Speaker: Eleri Rodi

  18. Content we must teach: Community college has raised the bar of its standards & students can feel secure that they are getting an education parallel to that of the average university Joining frats or sororities can lead students to massive drinking, academic dishonesty, affiliation with a bad crowd, or drug use College tuition is rising, financial aid is harder to get, and it’s getting harder to afford a degree Racial, Religious, and Sexual intolerance is alive at schools; join positive programming or feel alienated Students who work suffer from lower GPAs; the more hours they work, the lower their GPA Students do worse in their classes compared to students that do not involve themselves with drinking or attending parties Health risks are high at college: HIV, pregnancies, injuries, death. Can cause missing class or worse. Emotional stress can lead to insomnia, depression, and drinking; Stressed out students don’t do well in school Journey to the Bachelor’sDegree Seminar Characteristics Speaker: Adrian Ornatowski

  19. How we would conductAssessment • How can we be sure our Seminar was effective? • We do have several options • One option is to have each guest fill out a short survey before leaving • Another option is to use the clicker system: ask the students a question and have them click their answers • Last option could be sending home a survey, but return rates for these tend to be low • We would then study the results of our survey and make the necessary changes for the next time we offer the seminar. Speaker: Hamad Nabi

  20. Thank you! Do you have any questions? Speaker: Sheraz Khan
