  1. My rationale for teaching PDHPE

  2. Rationale • PDHPE is a vitally important subject for primary school children. A well-organised and effectively and enthusiastically taught curriculum can help to contribute to children leading healthy lifestyles. A healthy lifestyle gives children the greatest chance of achieving and maintaining mental, physical, social and spiritual wellbeing.

  3. Why is PDHPE important? • it encourages an understanding and valuing of self and others • it promotes physical activity • it emphasises informed decision making that leads to effective and responsible action

  4. The study of PDHPE should be concerned with: • physical, social, cognitive and emotional growth and development patterns • the development and maintenance of positive interpersonal relationships • the factors influencing personal health choices • living and learning in a safe and secure environment • the adoption of an active lifestyle • fundamental movement patterns and coordinated actions of the body • skills that enable better action for better health and movement outcomes

  5. Personal aims • To instil in my students a thorough and meaningful understanding of the elements of the NSW Department of Education PDHPE Syllabus • To do my utmost to instil in my students a genuine love of physical activity and an understanding of the importance and benefits of a healthy lifestyle • To have fun with PE and PDH!
