  1. Welcome ASL 1! Today---Foldables! Doorbuster– get supplies ready (#1 & #2 below)- 2 minutes!!!*1.Please have scissors and glue stick at each table- I have some for tables with none. You will also want colors for writing (I have some crayon pieces if you need them)*2.Each person needs 2 sheets of paper (for 2 foldables), 1 envelope and your comp. book

  2. Test Tuesday: • Written Questions- ASL 1: 5 parameters; ASL word order vs. English word order; Noun-Verb pairs- multiple choice, true/false • Signed Questions- watch a video of me signing- multiple choice – individual signs, also sentences Also- composition book check Monday- test grade

  3. Tab Book (Foldable) • 1.Fold hamburger and crease • 2.Fold again and crease • 3.Fold again and crease longways/hotdog fold • 4. Fold together one last time and crease • 5.Open back to hamburger • 6.Cut along the 4 long rectangle creases of only one half of the paper (edge of paper to the fold)

Smush book (Foldable) • 1.Hot dog style; crease the fold • 2.Fold it down one more time and crease • 3.Fold it down one more time and crease • 4.Open it • 5.Fold hamburger style • 6.Cut from the fold to mid-point (cross creased) • 7.Fold hot dog style • 8.Push in/smush so “mouth” opens • 9.Smush together = book • 10.Fold down in half, then open back to book

Smush Book- Unit A • Label top square Unit _A__ • Begin bottom square, label each square A, B, etc. • Write 7 signs from Unit A in CAPS on each square • Idea-Use different colors to write  Tab Book- TOSV • Label each tab: TIME OBJECT SUBJECT VERB • Open tab, then write 20 signs in CAPS – 10 on each side (left and right rectangles) of each row for OBJECT and VERB (see board for TIME and SUBJECT) • Use our class exercise this week, and your Unit A strips for vocabulary

Test Tuesday: • Written Questions- ASL 1 review culture/grammar- know all Doorbusters: example:--5 parameters; ASL word order vs. English word order; origin of ASL, etc. multiple choice, true/false • Signed Questions- watch a video of me signing- multiple choice – individual signs, also sentences • Possible Example: • The man visited his nephew and enjoyed the day. • The man visited his niece and enjoyed it yesterday. • The brother visited the apartment and washed clothes. • The sister visited the apartment it was a mess. • Also- composition book check Monday- test grade

  11. Welcome ASL 3! Today: • 1. Are you ready for your Entrance Interview Exam? Choices: • Prepare for your exam- have a copy of the handout and practice what you might sign; peer feedback; look up signs- I have 5 iTouches for check out- ASL lists only • Volunteer exams- sign up and take the exam today with Dr. Weast  • Exams will be required on Monday, and completed by Tuesday if need be (absences, etc.).

Rubric & Requirements for the ASL 1 & 2 skill level/review interview test • Reminder--For the test grade, I will be looking for: • at least 3 sentences per response • Correct sign formation (5 parameters) • Vocabulary comprehension/production (do you remember the signs?) • ASL word order, not English, no mouthing, no Signed English markers, etc. • Rubric- 100% --------------------------------------------below 70% • Errors: none a few some several many • Answers: complete most some partly lacking • ASL: excellent good understandable unclear • For skill level- I will use the SLPI Rating Scale (handout), and we will set goals for you for the year!

Reminder- (handout) --The 4 Parts of the conversation Entrance Interview: • Part 1- Introductions- you will sign: • Your Name (first and last) • Hearing/Deaf • Grade in school • What level in ASL • Part 2 (I will ask both of these questions) • Q:What are your goals for the future (work, college, etc.)? • Q: How do you plan to use your ASL? • Part 3- I will ask you 2 of these 4 questions  • Q: Describe your family, and where you live. (Tell me about your family) • Q: Describe two people in your family. • Q: What do you do on a typical school day (your routine)? • Q: What are 3 things you like or dislike about school or classes this year? • Part 4 -I will ask you 3 of these 5 questions : • Q: What is your opinion on New York drink size law/open campus lunch/electronic policy(goal-use at least 5 “debate” signs-explain your position) • Q:What are 3 interesting things about you? • Q:What do you like to do on your free time, for pleasure (hobbies, sports, etc.)? • Q: What is your favorite restaurant, and why? • Q: Do you want to visit (country)? Why? (Where do you want to go and why?)
