  2. OBJECTIVES • To learn terminology related to compete physical exam • To learn terminology related to minor surgical procedures

  3. INSPECTION • Method of examination in which the physician looks for visible abnormalities of speech, skin, color, gait, posture, etc

  4. PALPATION • Method of examination by touching with fingers or hands.

  5. PERCUSSION • Method of examination by tapping various parts of the body

  6. AUSCULTATION • Listening to body sounds; Method of examination by use of stethoscope

  7. MENSURATION • Measurement

  8. MANIPULATION • Passive movement of a joint to determine the range of motion

  9. EENT • Eyes, ears, nose, throat

  10. UCHD • Usual childhood diseases

  11. ROM • Range of motion

  12. GAIT • Manner of walking

  13. ROS • Review of systems

  14. CPX • Complete physical exam

  15. ANESTHESIA • Partial or complete loss of sensation

  16. INCISION • Surgical cut into tissue

  17. SUTURE • Surgical stitch taken to repair an incision

  18. MAYO STAND • Small portable tray/ table used to hold surgical or other medical instruments

  19. BIOPSY • The removal of tissue for purposes of determining abnormalities
