  1. United Airlines Miles Expiration: How to Prevent It Do United Airlines miles expire? The short answer is yes, they do. United Airlines loyalty miles have an expiration date and if they are not used within 18 months of earning them, they will be removed from your account. Luckily, there are ways to prevent your United Airlines miles from expiring. In this blog post, we will discuss the various methods for preventing your United Airlines miles from expiring and how you can keep them active for as long as possible.

  2. Redeem Your Miles For Travel One of the best ways to prevent your United miles from expiring is to redeem them for travel. United allows you to use your miles to book flights and vacation packages, as well as pay for hotels and rental cars. When you use your miles for travel, they won’t expire as long as you keep your account active. That means you must make at least one qualifying activity with your miles every 18 months. Qualifying activities include transferring points, purchasing items from the MileagePlus store, or redeeming miles for travel. So, when do United miles expire? They’ll expire after 18 months of inactivity, but you can prevent this by using your miles for travel!

  3. Transfer Your Miles To a Partner Airline If you are unable to use your United Airlines miles for a flight or any other activity, you can still prevent them from expiring by transferring them to a partner airline. United Airlines has a number of airline partners that you can transfer your miles to, which include Air Canada Aeroplan, Avianca LifeMiles, and Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer. All transfers must be completed prior to the expiration date of your miles. When do United miles expire? Generally, United Airlines miles expire after 18 months of inactivity. That means if you do not make a purchase, transfer, or redeem miles for at least 18 months, your miles will expire and you will lose them. To prevent this from happening, it is important to stay active with your miles by either making purchases or transferring them to a partner airline.

  4. Keep Your Account Active With Points Transfers or Activity The expiration date of your United miles is determined by the last time you had any activity on your account. Therefore, it's important to make sure your miles never expire by keeping your account active with points transfers or activity.  If you have not had any activity on your account in 18 months, your miles will begin to expire. You will receive notifications when this happens and you can take steps to prevent it from happening. Some ways to keep your account active include transferring miles to a partner airline or participating in other activities such as shopping, dining, or booking flights.  United also offers an Automatic Mileage Extend program that allows you to extend your miles for up to 12 months if there has been no activity on your account within the last 6 months. This way you don’t have to worry about when do united miles expire, as the miles will be automatically extended and kept from expiring.
