Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI’s) • United States (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention - CDC) • 1.7 Million people acquire an HAI in a US hospital each year. • 100,000 people die each year from US hospital infections. • Infections cost US Hospitals as much as $45 Billion per year. • England (National Clinical Guideline Centre / House of Commons) • Every year over 300,000 patients in England acquire a healthcare associated infection. • 9,000 deaths were recorded in 2007 due to MRSA or C.
