  1. April 2014 Newsletter Wine Tasting Evening A chilled glass of Prosecco welcomed the participants to a wine tasting evening on 4th April. A number of wines from around the world were presented on the night with spot prizes for guessing the origins and grape types! €375 was raised on the night. Many thanks to Paul Breen from Londis, KCR for educating us on the wines presented. If you have a big event coming up don’t forget to give Paul a shout for your wine orders. Fund Raising & Other Events Another term over! Portionwise Initiative As part of Terenure 2030, a group of parents in Terenure launched a “Get wise about portion size” initiative to address the increasing trend towards childhood obesity. The goal of the campaign was to promote healthier eating for our children by educating them on portion sizes and wise food choices. The Portionwise campaign is community-based with children at the heart of it, six junior schools in Terenure participated in Portionwise. To see more about Portionwise, media coverage and on-going articles just visit Portionwise.net Hoopathon / Skipathon A fun and active week was organised by the PA during the week of February 10th – 14th 2014. Each class participated in skipping, hula-hooping and basketball hooping activities. We raised a total of €1,583. A big thank you to Ms.Goddard and all the children who were involved. Great fun was had by all. See the website for photos of the events! End of Year Concert The annual end of year concert took place on Saturday 29th of March in the School Hall, which is a platform for the children to showcase the skills and talents they have gained while attending the Thursday & Saturday classes run by the PA.  This years’ show enjoyed a performance of the ‘The Gruffalo' performed by our Junior & Senior Infants from the Speech & Drama class.  The Irish Youth club yet again surprised us all with the fantastic 'Cup Song' & a 'One-D Interview' as Gaeilge!  Guitar beginners & improvers proved that they will never be short of a song to sing/perform judging by the repertoire of songs they played for us. The Ballet, hip hop and Irish dancers had us all on the edge of our seats with energetic performances.  The Karate kids demonstrated some moves that represented the art of the discipline itself.  While Arts & Crafts, Lego, Baking & Knitting do not participate in the show, the teachers had taken pictures of their creations during the year which were mounted and displayed around the hall. The Arts & Crafts class also designed the sign for the show which was a colourful stage background.  Likewise Chess, German & Spanish are classes that cannot be represented in the show but we would like to acknowledge their work throughout the year. The parents, friends and families of all the children were treated to a fantastic display of wonderful performances for 2 hours with a raffle at the end.  We would like to thank Setanta books for donating books for the raffle & Cadbury's for donating the Easter Eggs.  On a day like this, we could not put it all together without the generous help of all the parents who volunteer their time and commitment.  A sincere thank you to all the parents involved.  It is a daunting task for most children but being included in a show such as this and performing in front of a crowd is great for their confidence and self-esteem.  Well done to all the children who took part.  The Parents’ Association would like to take this opportunity to thank all the teachers involved in the Thursday & Saturday classes.
