Mentorship Program • Foster a sense of community • Further knowledge about career paths • Explore areas of interest • Biotechnology and Pharmaceuticals • Food and Consumer Products • Petroleum and Energy Resources • Plastics and Materials • Research/Masters/PhD Studies • Undecided Chemical Engineering • Increase involvement in AIChE

Mentor Qualifications • An upperclassman • Experienced area of interest • Available to commit time to students • Personable and caring • Example • Biotechnology and Pharmaceuticals Mentor • Transferred from pharmacy school • Interned at local pharmacy • Research assistant • Interned at Eli Lilly & Co.

6. Mentor Roles • Foster a sense of community • Host social events amongst mentees and entire department • Constant resource • Host information events about area of interest • Provide career fair preparations • Facilitate local plant tour • Provide guidance to underclassmen • Available for questions via email • Instill confidence and provide encouragement

7. Mentor Recruitment • Network with upperclassmen • Obtain internship information from advisors • Benefits as mentor • Resume booster • Rewarding experience • Giving back to community • End of year acknowledgment

Night With Industry • Goal: Instill confidence in mentees to explore career options • Networking with recruiters • Round table, informal setting • Planning: • Contact companies during the summer!! • Recent grads and alumni • Right before career fair is IDEAL • Advertise! • Free of cost to companies

Corporate Involvement • Create a corporate information packet • Purpose of mentorship program • Corporate involvement and sponsorship • Benefits of involvement • Can obtain company contacts though career fair or other networking events • Build list of company contacts • Maintain list for future use

Establishing Mentorship Chairs • Duties include: • Mentor and mentee recruitment • Developing handbook, event procedures, transition packets • Corporate sponsorship and involvement • Advertise program to underclassmen to get mentees • Mentors host events throughout the year • Coordinating mentor events
