  1. 3 Tips for Preventing a Car Lockout

  2. It can be super frustrating when you accidentally lock yourself out of your car, but, with the following 3 tips, you can help to prevent this from happening, or at the very least, mitigate your frustration levels: • Always carry a spare set of car keys If you’ve only got one key to your car, talk to your local auto locksmith about having another one cut so that if you do lose your original set, or they’re stolen, you can get back into your car with minimal fuss.

  3. Remember to select an appropriate place to keep your spare keys, as it’s unlikely that it will be convenient to carry them with you at all times. • Once your car is locked, put the keys straight in your pocket! This might sound like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised to learn just how many people don’t do this. Instead of placing the keys inside the trunk while you get your grocery bags out, or leaving them right on the seat next to you because you’re in a hurry to be somewhere, place them straight into your purse, briefcase or pocket. Do this consistently, and it’ll soon become a habit that you couldn’t forget to do, even if you tried!

  4. That said, a lot of modern vehicles have built in systems that can detect if you’ve left your keys inside the car, but it’s still a good idea to make pocketing your keys as soon as you’ve locked up, a habit. • Check the batteries in your car key fob Key fobs are common on many cars nowadays, and they are great for helping to prevent car lockouts. Remote lock mechanisms make it super easy and convenient for drivers if they’ve got their key fob on them, but even these can run out of batteries, and when they do, you won’t be able to use it to get inside your car. Simply check your car key fob batteries regularly, and this should never happen.

  5. You can also attach your car key fob to a key chain and keep it on you at all times to make sure you can always get into your car when you need to. If you didn’t already know, auto locksmiths are able to help with all manner of car key problems, and in the majority of cases, seeking their help is quicker and cheaper than going to a car dealership.
