  3. Agenda • Art with Ms. Lloyd • Designing a procedure • Creating your procedure for Alka Seltzer lab: if time permits • Notebook set-up • Procedures for Check-out

  4. Why? • Procedures are HOW we complete our labs. • THEY ARE EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!! • After the hypothesis of course 

  5. Art work with Ms. Lloyd • Art field trip • Yoko Ono • Creates instructions for art and then sells them for millions of dollars. • Has an advisor “check” the art after it’s been created to make sure it’s exactly what the artist wanted

  6. Art with Ms. Lloyd Continued • So what are we going to do? • Everyone will get a piece of paper and two crayons. • Do NOT break my crayons! • On your paper, you will write instructions for your drawing. • You MUST HAVE: • 5 steps to complete your drawing. • 2 shapes • Color

  7. Art with Ms. Lloyd Continued • IE: • Draw a star in the middle of the page. • Draw a green line down the center of the page. • On the left side of the paper, draw a large triangle. • Color the entire right side of the page orange. • Around the star in the center, draw a square.

  8. How does this silly activity connect? • What do you all think? • How does this art work exemplify the scientific method? • Think about how we carry out an experiment….

  9. Designing a procedure! • When designing a lab, it is important that we are VERY accurate and detailed with our procedure.

  10. Notebook • You’ll have 3 minutes to get your tabs written in and your name on the inside corner. • Tabs: • Vocab • Notes and handouts • Tests/quizzes • Misc.

  11. Notebook continued • When I open your binder I should see… • 1st: Your calendar! You’ll be writing in your assignments on this • 2nd: Your vocab tab with a quarter of your paper • 3rd: Your notes tab with a half of your paper • 4th: Exit ticket tab • 5th: Tests/quizzes tab with scholar stat sheet and remainder of your paper • 6th: Misc. tab

Check out • I love hearing about your weekends. • How this works: • We go around the room and talk about what we are doing this weekend. • I generally start with my weekend plans, and then I’ll ask for a volunteer. • Everyone is to remain quiet and respectful while others are talking. • THERE SHOULD NOT BE ADDITIONAL TALKING!! FOR REAL! • If you don’t want to share your plans, that’s fine, you can just say “Pass.” • HOWEVER! I am pretty nosey and will generally ask ridiculous questions until you share!
