  1. “Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock”by T. S. Eliot 4-Square Project

  2. Title, Author, Your Name, and Period • Somewhere on the project you must include the above information. • Don’t forget quotation marks around the title of the poem • It would not be wise to skip such a simple first step

  3. Top Left Corner • You need to choose an image from the poem that jumps out at you and illustrate it. • You may NOT use anything printed from the computer. It needs to be YOUR original artwork. • It must be colored and drawn neatly.

  4. Top Right Corner • Analyze the image you illustrated. • Include the quote and be sure to discuss the effect the image has on the reader. You may want to discuss the tone and feelings associated with it. • To avoid repetition, these should not be the same quotes or literary devices you use for the bottom left corner.

  5. Bottom Left Corner • In at least 100 words, analyze the use of two literary devices in the poem. You may want to review the example used in the previous powerpoint that explores asyndeton and polysyndeton. • Choose an abstract idea you want to explore (anxiety, despair, indecision, time, regret, fear of rejection, observation v. participation…) • Be sure your two chosen devices connect to the overall idea you’re exploring.

  6. Bottom Left Continued • Topic Sentence – One sentence that includes the title, author, idea and devices you chose • First Example – Embed your first quote into a sentence that tells the reader where it came from and what was happening. Be sure to include the line number • Commentary 2-3 sentences– Analyze the purpose of the literary device • Second Example • Commentary • Concluding Thoughts – Connect to real-world lesson or idea

  7. Bottom Right • Create an original response to the poem • Possible Ideas: • Journal entry • Your own poem or song lyrics in response • Dear Abby advice column • Newspaper Article • Text message exchange • Facebook Page • Letter • Your own idea • You can explore any of these choices from whatever perspective you choose – Prufrock, the “woman”, an anonymous source, a fly on the wall, etc.
