Research Areas and Findings • Relationship Experiences • 47% of girls had older partners, 11% had ‘much older’ partners • Physical Partner Violence • 18% boys reported some physical violence and 25% girls • Emotional Partner Violence • Nearly ¾ girls and ½ boys reported some emotional violence • Sexual Partner Violence • 1 in 3 girls reported some sexual violence and 16% of boys • Impact Of Partner Violence • ¾ girls reported their experiences as having a negative effect on their welfare. Generally boys reported little or no effects, other than making them angry • Post Relationship Violence -many of the girls remained in the relationships and reported that if/when they left the relationship the violence increased

  3. Associated Factors For Experiencing and Instigating Partner Violence • Previous experiences of child maltreatment • History of domestic abuse within the family • Aggressive peer networks • Girls having an older and in particular a ‘much older’ partner

Young Persons Pilot Programme Flintshire • Respect Toolkit • a group work programme for young people (pre/post sessions) • risk assessment tool • evaluation • Targeted at Young People who are “using or at risk of using abusive behaviours within their intimate or family relationships” • 3 programmes running in Flintshire between January and March 2010 • Divided into age appropriate groups: • 12 - 14 yr olds • 15 - 17 yr olds • 18 - 21 yr olds
