  4. 4 P’s • Proper Gear • Proper Health • Proper Training • Proper Communications

  5. Proper Gear • Climate – Upper Midwest – Land of the Temperature Extremes • You can never have to much - Insect Repellent (Ticks and Misquotes) - Sun Screen - Dry Socks - Extra Footware • Minimum of 3 days worth • Storing • PPE

  6. Proper Health • Be in good shape – Any type of work in a disaster environment is intensely physical • Know any of your personal health limitations • Carry enough meds for at least 4 days - Consider refrigeration • Proper diet and nutrition • Can never consume to much water • Stress considerations

  7. Proper Training • Working in an austere environment - First Aid Stations - Fire Rehab - Mass Immunizations Clinics (schools and Closed PODS) - Mass Sheltering • Deployment Considerations – Gear, Personal Health, Communications • Team Building Workout or Campouts

  8. Proper Communications • Do you interoperable communications with your partner agencies? - Face to Face - FRS or GMRS radios - UHF, VHF, Amateur - Cell Phones with 24 hour contact numbers? • Proper Photo ID
