  2. Our idea is for a chicken farm. The type of chickens that we want are bantams. Hope you like our presentation 

  3. About Bantams Their feet are extremely fluffy and they’re really easy to pick up so they’re easier to handle.

  4. The reasons for having chickens are We can sell the eggs for a reasonable profit. Teachers can have them for their breakfast and school dinners. The eggs from the chickens will supply us for a whole year.

  5. ABOUT BROODY CHICKENS When a chicken is broody they don’t drink and they go off their food and don’t eat. Put a cold stone or a fake egg underneath them and move them into a separate coup. They pluck their feathers they stay in their coup.

  6. Where will we put them? • We will keep them by the shelter because it is a bit more protected from the wind and would be easier to get to if there was snow.

  7. We talked to Mr Burford about the cost of keeping chickens • He told us what they eat • What you need to clean the coup out • How you dust them • How to pick them up • When to worm them

  8. How do we protect from predators ? • Foxes can climb over or dig under fences and squeeze through very small spaces. • Use a wire mesh all the way around and above the coup. • Fix wooden boards to the base of the fence.. • Check the coup regularly to make sure it’s secure. • Shut chickens in their coup at night.

  9. cost • Chickens = £99 for 9 • Coup = £304 • Food =£20 for 1 bag we need 4/5 so almost £100 • bedding =20g/£8.99 or 10g/£5.99 • Fencing = £89.99 • Powder = £9.99 • Bins=£38 • Water bowl =£4.99 • Food bowl =£8.99 • Grand total =£554.96 • Money left =£4445.04 MONEY
