  1. Case Study: A Water Park Weekend in Wisconsin Dells Kelly M. Sics, CPA, CGMA Director of Finance Wisconsin Dental Association

  2. The Case Imagine that you have a family of four and you are on a tight budget. You can't afford to take a vacation to Disney World, but you'd like to do the next best thing: a water park weekend in Wisconsin Dells! Now it's time to do some research. Which water park has the lowest price and where will you stay? Your task is to prepare a spreadsheet comparing three water parks and three lodging options. You plan to arrive in Wisconsin Dells Friday and leave Wisconsin Dells to return home on Sunday. After accumulating the data, make a decision regarding which water park you will visit and where you will stay. Write a brief paragraph explaining how you arrived at your decision and what factors you considered when making your decision.

  5. Challenge Your Students Is there a different lodging option? If you stay off site and pay for the water park passes, can you save money? Is there a coupon or a discount offered on certain weekends? Would you save money by taking a few days off during the week rather than going on the weekend? What other costs must you consider when determining the total cost of the trip (gas, food, etc.).

  6. Challenge Your Students What are the pros and cons to selecting an all outdoor water park, all indoor water park or a water park with indoor and outdoor activities. Which park is best for your family based on the ages and height of your children. Does one park have more rides with height restrictions? You decide to vacation with another family. Can you cut costs by sharing a larger room, or is it better to reserve two separate rooms?

  7. Challenge Your Students Brainstorm

  8. Other Ideas Six Flags break even analysis – how many trips can you take to Six Flags before it is a better value to purchase the season pass? Disney World or Disney Land? Drive or fly to Florida for spring break
