General context • Bologna Process : 46 countries, European Commission, Council of Europe, UNESCO-CEPES, EUA, EURASHE, ESU, Education International, Business Europe • General objective : realisation of (open) European Higher Education Area by 2010 • 1999-2005 : action lines mainly oriented towards internal coordination

  4. General context • Since mid-term review in 2005 : new action line of global dimension and partnership with the world

Bergen Communiqué 2005 • Ongoing work on Guidelines on context of contribution to achieving education for all and based on the principle of sustainable development • EHEA as partner to HE systems worlwide • Spirit of inter-cultural understanding and respect • Sharing of experience on reform processes

  6. London Communiqué 2007 • Adoption of Strategy for EHEA in a Global Setting • Improving information on EHEA • Promotion of EHEA (attractiveness/competitiveness) • Strenghtening cooperation (partnership) • Policy dialogue • Improving recognition
