YOUR MATERNITY ENTITLEMENTS AT A GLANCE – SUMMARY FOR RICHMOND EMPLOYEES (teachers, please consult Schools Extranet) • YOU ARE ENTITLED TO: • Paid time off for antenatal care • 26 weeks Ordinary Maternity Leave (OML), including a minimum absence from work of 2 wks (immediately following childbirth) • 26 weeks Additional Maternity Leave (AML) • All contractual benefits except for wages or salary • Up to 10 paid Keep In Touch (KIT) days without loss of maternity benefits • Protection against unfair treatment dismissal • Right to request parental leave at the end of the maternity leave • Right to request flexible working upon returning to work YOU ARE PREGNANT This is based on your current weekly earnings. It will be different for employees who are below the limit for National Insurance contributions (currently £102). Please use our maternity pay calculator to assess your position. … LESS THAN 26 WEEKS CONTINUOUS SERVICE IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT • YOU ARE ALSO ENTITLED TO: • Maternity Allowance (MA) during OML + during part AML (39 wks total) • eg 39 weeks at MA flat rate (£128.73 at 3rd April 2011) OR • YOU ARE ALSO ENTITLED TO: • SMP during OML + during part AML (39 wks total) • eg6 weeks 90% weekly earnings + 33 weeks SMP flat rate (£128.73) … 26 TO 51 WEEKS CONTINUOUS SERVICE IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT AT THE END OF WEEK 26 OF YOUR PREGNANCY, YOU HAVE… OR • YOU ARE ALSO ENTITLED TO: • Contractual Maternity Pay (CMP) - conditional upon return to work for the Council – during some of OML and some of AML • Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) during part AML • Payments can be organised in three different ways: … 52 WEEKS (OR MORE) CONTINUOUS SERVICE IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT eg, either: 6 weeks 90% weekly earnings + 12 weeks SMP flat rate (£128.73) topped with 50% weekly earnings + 21 weeks SMP flat rate or: 6 weeks 90% weekly earnings + 20 weeks SMP flat rate (£128.73) topped with pro rata of 50% weekly earnings + 13 weeks SMP flat rate or: 6 weeks 90% weekly earnings + 33 weeks SMP flat rate (£128.73) + lump sum for all CMP paid upon your return to work Last review: July 2011
