What Are the ELL Periodic Assessments? • Optional no-stakes assessments for ELL students in grades 3-12 (schools opted in during spring 2008 selections) • Aligned to NYSESLAT and ELA standards • Assess 3 modalities: reading, writing and listening • Will be predictive to the NYSESLAT starting 2009-10 school year • Available twice per school year: November 6-18 and March 23-30 • 30 multiple-choice questions, one instructional period • Paper/pencil administration; courier answer sheet pickup; online reporting

When Are ELL Assessments Administered? • Fall administration window: November 6-18 • ELL assessments are available to schools to be used as a substitute for other Periodic Assessments • HS Acuity fall ITA window: October 27 - November 7 • 3-8 Acuity fall ITA window: November 12-21 • Regents-year Acuity Predictive Assessment window: November 12-21 (for students not taking the Regents this year) • Performance Series computer adaptive assessments (available anytime) • ELL assessments may also be used as a complement to your chosen assessment combination

Why Administer ELL Periodic Assessments? • What information do ELL Periodic Assessment reports provide? • Detailed information about students’ acquisition of English reading, writing, and listening skills (aligned with NYSESLAT) • Item and skill analysis linked to NYS ESL and ELA standards • 2007-08 NYSESLAT and NYS ELA test scores • Predictive information toward NYSESLAT starting 2009-10 • References to relevant ELL-specific instructional resources • What information do other Periodic Assessment reports provide? • Acuity ITAs • Item and skill analysis on NYS standards taught during a specific instructional period • Links to relevant instructional resources • Performance Series computer adaptive assessments • Information on student instructional level, independent of enrolled grade level • Suggested learning objectives

What Data Is Available through the ELL Assessment Online Reporting Tool? • Archived assessment data • 2007-2008 ELL Periodic Assessments (grades 3-8) • January 2008 ELA State tests (grades 3-8) • Spring 2008 NYSESLAT (grades 3-12) • Assessment data from 2008-2009 assessments • November 2008 ELL Periodic Assessment (grades 3-12) • January 2009 ELA State test (grades 3-8) • March 2009 ELL Periodic Assessment (grades 3-12) • Spring 2009 NYSESLAT (grades 3-12)

Accessing ELL Assessment Reports • Log into the ELL Periodic Assessment reporting tool via the English Language Learners section of the Periodic Assessment Web site • http://schools.nyc.gov/Accountability/ResourcesforEducators/PeriodicAssessments • Educator User Name: DOE Outlook email (i.e., zsmith12) • Educator Password: 6-digit file number
