  2. Handshake And Pledge • Learn our MAC Scholar Handshake and Pledge MAC Scholars Pledge I am an African American man, and I pledge to uphold the name and image of the African American man. I will do so by striving for academic excellence, conducting myself with dignity, and respecting others as if they were my brothers and sisters.

  3. Representation in Honors/AP • 2010-11 • 71% Caucasian • 77% representation in Honors/ AP • 23% African American • 11% representation in Honors/ AP • 2011-12 • 68% Caucasion • 69% representation in Honors/AP • 22% African American • 13% representation in Honors/AP WHAT’S HAPPENING????

African American Male • 1 in 4600 chance of becoming an NBA player • <1 in 1250 chance of becoming an NFL player • 1 in 2000 chance of getting a PhD in mathematics, engineering or the physical sciences • 1 in 548 chance of becoming a physician • 1 in 195 chance of becoming a lawyer • 1 in 53 chance of becoming a teacher • 1 in 13 chance of going to prison before he turns 20 • 1 in 7 chance of never graduating from high school • 1 in 6 chance of going to prison before he dies

Being Organized • In order to reach your goals in life you need to be ORGANIZED!!! • Planner – it is important to write down what you are doing and what you need to do. • Bookbag – We will break into groups to take a closer look at your organizational skills. You will meet with the group that has the same colored popsicle stick as yours.

  7. Overall Picture • Have balance in your life! • Review the goal cards that you wrote at our last meeting: • How will organization help you reach those goals? • This year? • In high school? • After you graduate?
