Kansas Center for Safe and Prepared Schools Guides LEAs through development and implementation of: • Emergency Operations Plan • Practical school emergency response procedures • A multi-disciplined school crisis management team • Standardized and coordinated school safety drills • A standard threat assessment document • Partnerships with local emergency management and first responders • An understanding of the four phases of emergency management (mitigation/prevention, preparedness, response and recovery)

  8. CORE BELIEFS Personal management and relationship skills are vital in all aspects of learning and of life. Students are most able to act in respectful and responsible ways when they have learned and practiced a range of social, emotional and character development skills. Effective social, emotional and character development skills support academic achievement in students and constructive engagement by staff, families and communities. Students learn best in a respectful, safe and civil school environment where adults are caring role models. Bullying/Harassment Prevention and safe school initiatives are most sustainable when embedded systemically in a whole school Social, Emotional, and Character Development (SECD) programming.

The 11 Principles are used to identify schools for recognition in Kansas and nationally as exemplary programs. The SECD Standards are the WHAT do students need to know and be able to do….the11P are the HOW does it look in a school. Provided FREE to all schools in Kansas as a part of the PCEP Grant through June 2013.
