  9. Category Growth and Innovation • Private Labels are extremely important to retailers for their Gross Margin in the category. • They make up majority of the Gross Margins for almost every store audited • Private Labels typically are in 1st or 2nd on amount of display space given to a brand

Explanation of P/L Success in Category • Private labels will remain strong in this category due to their Gross Margin for stores rivaling the best of the National Brands. • Compared to years prior the Private label has remained as it is today. • Still strong and dominant part of the store in both Facings and Gross Margin

Recommendations to retailers • Private Labels will have an increasing presence in the category because of the percent of Gross Margin they bring to a retailer. • Stores should look at some of their brands, like green giant, that they dedicate large amounts of space to with little return and replace with either private labels or more profitable brands, like DelMonte.
