  2. Goals of the Project • Establish Locations • Determine Type of Experiment • Propose Ideas to Board • Begin Planting in Greenhouse • Install plots outside Aiken Center

  3. Proposed Box Placement

  4. Plot Notes • Goal was to come up with something that can be easily installed and easily tested. • Created planters: 7 @ 6ft x 9in x 4in 3 @ 3ft x 9in x 4in • Decided on placement to be placed equally displaced around the building in order to test sunlight. • Filled boxes with compost potting mix, and planted with two native species of grasses.

  5. Rain Garden

  6. Rain Garden Notes • Designed to capture water runoff as it continued down the hill towards drain. • Clean water before it enters the lake. • Encourage pedestrians to stay on the path • Consist of Vermont Natives • ***Due to time, and financial restraints the garden has been put on hold.*** • Plan on proposing to complete next year

  7. Plot Testing • How the soil effects temperature change of plots • How sunlight effects growth • Acidity levels of plots based on plants

  8. Box Creation

  9. Plants of the Plots Eastern Star Sedge Grass Pennsylvania Sedge Grass

  10. Maintenance • Require bi-weekly watering starting May 1, 2013 • Need to be tested every two weeks staring May 1, 2013 • Tests will include: • Height of plants (growth) • Temperature of soil medium, and outside temperature • Acidity of soil

  11. Future Goals • Looking to see plots become part of the landscape • Want to provide future testing sites • Provide a learning space for students • Create a lasting impact on the Aiken Center through statistical data
