Topics We Cover Traditional College Prep work plus intro to AP Chemistry • Periodic Table: trends, history, element symbols • Atomic Structure and Quantum Mechanics • Reactions: bonding, writing chemical formulas, types, predicting products, balancing and stoichiometry • Organic Chemistry: basic nomenclature and reactions • Acid and Bases: neutralization, equilibrium • Gas Behavior: kinetic theory, gas laws Will be more in depth as district moves towards the new national science standards (goal is 2015)
Laboratory Work Allows students to construct knowledge Allows students to master common lab techniques Demonstrate concepts or processes MANY “labettes” FOUR intense, self-designed, formal lab reports
