Ball is dead, • deflects off a defensive player or an umpire, or a runner, after passing a fielder, excluding the pitcher, and provided no other fielder had a chance to make an out and goes out of play in foul territory. 4. Three bases • fielder intentionally contacts, or catches a fair batted ball with his cap, helmet, mask, protector, pocket, detached glove or any part of his uniform that is detached from its proper place on his person. Ball is alive. NOTE: If the illegal catch or touch is made on a fair hit ball that, in the umpire's judgment, would have cleared the outfield fence in flight, the batter-runner shall be awarded a home run.

5. Four bases • fly ball goes over the fence. Ball is dead, • fly ball directly off the fielder's glove or body and over the fence in fair territory. Ball is dead, • fly ball makes contact with the top of the fence and goes over the fence in fair territory. Ball is dead, • fly ball makes contact with the foul pole above the fence line. Ball is dead.
