  4. Key policy issues • Govt supplying improved seeds to farmers, has issued 754mt of improved rice seed • Provide inputs, subsidised fertiliser up to 50% • Providing equipment such as tractors, water pumps at 50% of the cost • Opening new land for rain fed rice production

  5. Market problems • Imported rice is cheaper than local rice • Local production only accounts for the 30% of the total rice consumption
