  1. Freshwater Biomes GiannaMurtha & Allie Weiss

  2. Geographical Features Freshwater is found in ponds, lakes, or rivers. These bodies of water are usually shallow due to the type of fish and the plants growing which supply homes for other fish and bugs. There is a lot of algae in the water because sunlight is able to reach the bottom of the water.

  3. Photosynthetic Organisms Algae is generally used to refer to a wide variety of different and unfamiliar photosynthetic organisms. In freshwater algae is also called phytoplankton, it varies in shape in color and is found in large range habitats. Algae grows when it has the right conditions such as light levels, pH, temperature, etc.

  4. Types of Animals • Salmon • Trout • Mosquitoes • Ticks • Leeches • Chiggers • Water moccasins • Ducks • Geese • Swans • Otter • Beaver • Manatee • Alligators • Crocodiles

  5. Human Impact Humans impact freshwater by withdrawing water for living purposes and the biome shrinks and degrades plant and animal habitats. Pollution is another way us human impact the biome, the pollution affects the groundwater supply with runs off into the lakes, rivers, or streams. People can preserve this biome by reducing pesticides and other pollution.

  6. Location of Freshwater The colored areas on this map are where the Freshwater is located.

  7. Freshwater Value Freshwater Pearls- a kind of stone that comes from freshwater mussels. They are produced in Japan, China, and the United States. They are used for jewelry and crushed to make cosmetic paints.
