  1. Kellan Tetraflex KH3500 Accommodative IOLs vs. Acri.Lisa Diffractive Multifocal IOLs C.A. Utine*, H. Çakır**, S. Genc***, I. Perente**** * Yeditepe University Eye Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey ** Turkiye Hospital Eye Clinic, Istanbul, Turkey *** Pendik State Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey **** Beyoglu Eye Research & Training Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey ASCRS 2009

  2. Financial Disclosures The authors do not have any financial interests or relationships to disclose. ASCRS 2009

  3. Purpose • To compare the clinical results of Accommodative Kellan Tetraflex KH3500 (LensTec®) IOL vs. Diffractive Acri.Lisa (Acri.Tec®) multifocal IOL implantation ASCRS 2009

  4. Kellan Tetraflex KH3500 (LensTec®) Acri.Lisa (Acri.Tec®) Presbyopic IOLs • Single piece, acrylic (26% water content), square edge optic, implantable with injector through microincision • Optic Diameter : 5.75mm / Haptic Diameter : 11.50mm / Haptics : Tetraflex, 5° angle • A constant : 118.0 • Diopter Range : • + 31.0 - + 36.0 D arası with 1.00 D steps • + 5.0 - + 18.0 and + 25.0 - + 30.0 D with 0.5D steps • + 18.0 - + 25.0 D with 0.2D steps • Anterior movement within the capsule, independent from the vitreous pressure ASCRS 2009

  5. Methods • Group 1 : Kellan Tetraflex KH3500 (LensTec®) IOL was implanted in 17 eyes of 10 patients • Group 2 : Acri.Lisa (Acri.Tec®) IOL was implanted in 20 eyes of 10 patients • Refractive spherical equivalent (SE), best uncorrected/corrected distance visual acuity (UCVA, BCVA), uncorrected near visual acuity (UCNVA) with Jaeger chart, and complications were evaluated. ASCRS 2009

  6. Results • Group 1 • Preoperatively • Mean SE : +2,38 ± 1,22D (+0,38D - +4,50D) • Mean distance UCVA : 0,25 ± 0,12 • Mean distance BCVA : 0,65 ± 0,31 • Postoperatively • Mean SE : -0,39 ± 0,63D (-1,75D - +0,75D) • Mean distance UCVA : 0,89 ± 0,16 • Mean distance BCVA : 0,98 ± 0,07 • UCNVA : J1 in 15 eyes (88,24%), J3 in 2 eyes (11,76%) • In 3 eyes, Nd:YAG laser posterior capsulotomy was done at the 2nd month • In 1 eye, IOL exchange was done due to haptic break

  7. Results • Group 2 • Preoperatively • Mean SE : -0,08 ± 4,07D (-9,00D - +4,25D) • Distance UCVA : 0,13 ± 0,21 • Distance BCVA : 0,50 ± 0,34 • Postoperatively • Mean SE : –0,50 ± 0,49D (-1,50D - 0,00D) • Distance UCVA : 0,83 ± 0,18 • Distance BCVA : 0,97 ± 0,06 • UCNVA : J1 in 16 eyes (80%), J2 in 4 eyes (20%) • In 1 eye, unilateral LASIK due to residual myopia • Two patients complained of severe dysphotopsia

  8. Results • Early postoperative results were statistically similar between two groups (p>0.05 for all). • Patients reported higher satisfaction of uncorrected near vision in Group 2. ASCRS 2009

  9. Conclusion • Factors that should be evaluated in long term : • Development of neuroadaptation for dysphotopsia in multifocal IOL group • Maintenance of the accommodative function in the accommodative group • Effects of posterior capsule opacification in both groups ASCRS 2009
