PRESERVICE PREPARATION Integrate information into every discussion of families and disability in any class Future teachers need to realize that parents with disabilities may have had difficult school experiences and need sensitive outreach Social workers need information about disability culture, including concepts like least dangerous assumption, dignity of risk, self-determination Health professionals need accurate information, as they may be the first people parents encounter

RESEARCH Research on parents with disabilities and child welfare laws (Elizabeth Lightfoot and Traci LaLiberte, University of Minnesota), Guide to Creating Legislative Change, (influential in creating model legislation in Idaho) Demographic research on parents with disabilities (University of Minnesota) Assistance with National Council on Disabilities 2012 report, Rocking the Cradle: Ensuring the Rights of Parents with Disabilities (Robyn Powell), with interviews from Elizabeth Lightfoot (UMN), Bernadette Irwin (Kennedy Krieger), Susan Yuan (CDCI—VT)

INFORMATION DISSEMINATION Creation of new international organization, TASP, The Association for Successful Parenting: Enhancing the Lives of Families when Parents Have Learning Difficulties (founding board members from Kennedy Krieger, Sherlock Center, CDCI, Minnesota, ND UCEDD TASP Conferences (with organization and assistance from UCEDDs above, but particularly by Kennedy Krieger center) Numerous conference presentations: AAIDD, AUCD, TASH, SABE and regional conferences in Canada, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Oklahoma

INFORMATION DISSEMINATION Information assisted changes in public policy in CAPTA Reauthorization (CDCI) Information assisted changes in Idaho Child Welfare law (Minnesota) Information assisted changes in Vermont regulations for Child Welfare, and mandated a legislative study Information assisted in the preparation of National Council on Disability Report
