Introduction to NAP Idea • Awareness and concern on SC, but not much implementation. • Some policies, but a lack of a coherent framework/plan that integrates various activities for a common goal. • Need for more concrete outputs (decoupling consumption from environmental degradation) • Capacity building on drafting national action plans on sustainable consumption (sector specific). Training on Developing NAP

NAP EXERCISE • Country team exercise (12 teams) • Each team supported by one resource person • Go through the 6 steps and fill out the NAP sheet • This is an exercise to test the NAP, If you do not have the information, assume you do. • Plenary: the main findings of each country will be summarized in a matrix Training on Developing NAP

  5. Follow-up Support • UNEP is interested in supporting the real implementation of NAP. • Looking for champions (lead countries) • The Asian NAP important input for the 10 Year Programme on SCP (Costa Rica, Sept 2005) and example for other regions Training on Developing NAP

  6. Purpose of the Booklet • Developed as part of SC. Asia project for this seminar. • Provide guidance on how national action plans on sustainable consumption (NAPs) may be developed. • The model proposed in this booklet: • provides a step-by-step approach • includes basic elements that should be included in NAPs • each section contains generic text & explanation about what country specific information is needed. • The model draws on the UN Guidelines & input from the European and Asian reviews. Asia project Consumption patterns in your country To explain why sustainable consumption is importation for your country Your Role Use the generic text in the booklet as an introduction for your NAP Describe the consumption patterns in your country Add any information you think is important to explain why your country need to address SC NAP Model – Part 1Introduction Training on Developing NAP
