The gender of objects in Spanish is determined by the ending of the word • The gender of an object has nothing to do with the object itself or even who the object belongs to. • Por ejemplo: el libro de Jesús el libro de María The libro (book) is masculine. The word LIBRA in Spanish means “pound”
What are the endings for masculine nouns? • -o -or • -al -e *** • -z -ón
What are the endings for feminine nouns? • -a -dad • -tad -tud • --ción -sión Ojo: words that end in –ista can be both masculine and feminine. Some words are exceptions to the rules like día and mano.
