Tværgående principper • Rights-based approach: In support of the constitution of South Africa, which enshrines the right of South African citizens to an environment which is not harmful to their health or well-being, and to sustainable management and utilization of South Africa’s resources • Participatory approach: Involvement and professional development of 600 Curriculum Staff across the country • Sustainability: Inclusion of environment as one out of five principles in the South African school law
NEEP GET målsætninger • The National Environmental Education Project for General Education and Training (NEEP-GET) supports the Government of South Africa in the promotion of sustainable living through the implementation of Environmental education in the GET band. The commitment of the Government to this ideal is evidenced by its inclusion in the Constitution as well as the signing of Agenda 21. • The Project therefore seeks to ensure that environmental education is integrated throughout the General Education and Training (GET) band and to build capacity in the provinces to implement environmental education in their schools. This will be done by supporting the implementation of environmental learning through C2005.
7 outputs • Undertaking initiatives to integrate environmental learning in the curriculum for the GET band • Implementation of a professional development programme for provincial environmental education co-ordinators to facilitate, extend and sustain the process of enabling provincial and district CS staff to integrate environmental learning in their work • Implementation of a professional development programme for provincial and district Curriculum Support staff to facilitate, extend and sustain the integration of environmental learning in schools
7 outputs (continued) • Implementation of a professional development programme for teachers to support them with the integration of environmental learning in the learning areas • Development and production of guideline documents and resource materials to support the integration of environmental learning • Influence pre-teacher education regarding environmental learning • Improvement of co-ordination of school-focussed environmental learning initiatives at national and provincial level

Achievement of Immediate Objective • Environmental learning is integrated throughout the curriculum for General Education and Training • Two provinces have the capacity to implement environmental learning in participating districts and schools, thus providing a foundation for expanding environmental learning to all other districts and schools • Six other provinces have increased capacity to implement environmental learning in schools.
