  1. Future of Wireless Forum Presentation Nick Ehrke Sales Director, Southern Africa August, 2014

  2. Agenda • Little bit about us • Trends (what is disruptive in the market today) • The spectrum challenge, a vendors perspective • What does the future look like • Conclusion

  4. Disruptive trends in telecommunications • The Internet of Everything is upon us! “XaaS” will become the most important revenue stream for operators • Densification by MNO’s cell networks (Lamppost's etc.) adding Wi-Fi etc… • All-in-One (in a box) offering’s from MNO’s • “Worldwide about 50% of Internet traffic relies on Wi-Fi and about 3% relies on mobile networks.” Ian MacMillan, CableLabs • Capacity vs Coverage argument has passed, it is now all about capacity! (You still need the coverage) • Spectrum demand driven by public demand for capacity.

  5. The Spectrum Challenge • Welcome your new MNO neighbour to ISM Band for; • last mile access to compete with xDSL, • back-up to FttX • Small Cell Backhaul in NLOS environments IN SA, over 400 Independent WISP are working with just 365MHz of bandwidth in 5.X GHz and 80MHz in 2.4GHz

  6. What does the future look like! • Today, Operators / ISP’s cannot meet the whole need or satisfy the demand for broadband in SA. • It is all about last mile! And it is a race……………… • Overcrowding… more and more companies are addressing the last mile by using Unlicensed Spectrum (specifically 5.x GHz) • Competition is coming from the MNO’s – This is a reality! • Vendors will bring more and more capacity to the market, using more Channel Bandwidth, causing more interference. • WISP’s margins will be challenged as more competition comes to market from MNO’s etc…

  7. In Conclusion • It doesn’t matter how much spectrum the regulator makes License Exempt, the demand will outstrip supply • Sell as many Managed Services, Value Added Services, Cloud Services etc. as possible on top of, around it or near your network today. • Future proof your network, take a long term view, today! • The solution to your Unlicensed “interference” issues, isn’t going to be fixed by the regulator or in better policing, but it will be fixed by RADWIN in bringing game changing technology to market. • As a vendor we have to deliver in 2015, Interference Nullification
