About the author • It is believed that William Shakespeare was born in 1564, • in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England. • He was the eldest son of John shakespeare, a merchant. • At the age of 18, he married Anne Hathaway and she became the mother of his three children. It is believed that Shakespeare moved from Stratfor-upon-Avon to London in 1588.

  3. In Elisabeth England, writing plays was a good way to make a living. Shakespeare was truly gifted. He wrote easily and quickly and he soon became a successful actor and playwright. • Romeo and Juliet was written in 1595 and was one of Shakespeare’s tragedies. Other tragedies wrote by Shakespeare were Othello, King Lear, Hamlet or MacBeth. • In 1608, at the end of his career, Shakespeare entered into semi-retirement and bought a large, expensive house in Stratford-upon-Avon for his wife and children. He returned to live there until his death in 1616. • William Shakespeare is known as one of the greatest writers of all time. The reason his work is so popular is that he wrote about the human nature and behaviour and his ideas are relavant today as they were 400 years ago.
