  4. Kindergarten Writing Rubric Based on the Learning Targets

  5. Description: This is a writing rubric designed by my kindergarten team. It will be used to assess all students in my class. This consists of 18 children, 10 females and 8 males, ages 5 and 6. 14 of the 18 students are free or reduced lunch. Analysis: This rubric was designed aligned to the learning targets to communicate to parents how their children are performing in a specific area of writing. It is written in kid and parent friendly language. We chose to create this because of the lack of common assessments in kindergarten and our desire for parents to understand what their children are learning and what they still need to learn. Reflection: Use of this rubric will help in planning and differentiation in the writing curriculum. Mini lessons and small groups can be designed to meet the needs of the students that have not mastered a certain area outlined in the rubric. It will also help in communication with parents at report card time and during parent/teacher conferences.
