  1. What Does HIV Treatment Entail? Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is a type of HIV treatment that involves taking very effective drugs to control the infection. Everyone with HIV should begin antiretroviral therapy (ART) as soon as possible after being diagnosed, preferably the same day. People on ART take an HIV treatment regimen, which is a mix of HIV medications. An first HIV treatment regimen usually consists of three HIV drugs from at least two separate HIV drug classes, all of which must be taken exactly as prescribed. There are various solutions that combine two or three HIV medications into a single daily pill. If your health care practitioner certifies that you meet specific criteria, long-acting HIV injections are also available every two months. What is the significance of HIV testing? By the end of 2019, the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimated that 1.2 million Americans were living with HIV. Furthermore, 13% of HIV-positive patients are completely unaware that they have the virus. They may not only not receive the care they require, but they may also inadvertently spread the illness to others. Undiagnosed people are responsible for about 40% of new HIV diagnoses.

  2. According to the CDC's HIV testing recommendations Trusted Source, healthcare providers should perform routine HIV screens as part of standard care regardless of risk factors. Many Americans have never been tested for HIV despite these guidelines. Anyone who hasn't been tested for HIV should consider requesting one from their doctor. They can also get HIV testing at a nearby clinic for free and anonymously. To discover a nearby testing location, go to the CDC's Get Tested website. How are HIV testing performed? If a person has been diagnosed with HIV, it is critical that they continue to monitor their condition. Several tests can be used by their healthcare provider to do this. CD4 count and viral load are the two most common indicators of HIV transmission. CD4 count HIV attacks CD4 cells and kills them. This is a kind of white blood cell that can be found in the human body. As the virus assaults CD4 cells, the CD4 count will drop over time if not treated. A person is diagnosed with stage 3 HIV, or AIDS, when their CD4 count falls below 200 cells per cubic millimetre of blood. Early and effective therapy can keep a person's CD4 count healthy and help them avoid developing stage 3 HIV.

  3. The CD4 count should stay the same or grow if treatment is working. This number is also a good predictor of overall immunological health. When a person's CD4 count falls below certain thresholds, their chance of having certain diseases skyrockets. Their doctor may prescribe preventive antibiotics based on their CD4 count to help prevent infections. Viral load The amount of HIV in the blood is measured by viral load. The viral load can be measured by a healthcare expert to track the success of HIV treatment and the disease's progression. When a person's viral load is low or undetectable, he or she is less likely to acquire stage 3 HIV and the immunological dysfunction that comes with it. When a person's viral load is undetectable, they are also less likely to spread HIV to others. People with undetectable virus loads should nevertheless use condoms and other barrier techniques to avoid transmission to others during sexual activity.
