  1. 4-PS-3-2 EVIDENCE Welcome to: That Energy Can Be Transferred Objective: Make observations to provide evidence that energy can be transferred from place to place by sound, light, heat, and electric currents.

  2. Energy Types 4-PS-3-2 Energy is all around us! There are many forms of energy: Chemical Energy Potential Energy Kinetic Energy Heat Energy Electrical Energy Light Energy Energy that is released when two substances react when mixed Energy that moves between objects when their temperatures are different Because of an object’s position, it has the potential to move. The energy of motion relative to the ground Light energy is a form of energy that we can see. The most important source of light energy is the Sun. Moving electrical particles have the ability to do work And others too!

  3. Let’s Show What We Know! 1. How do we know a kicked ball has energy? The ball is stationary (not moving) The ball is red, white and blue The ball is in motion (moving) The person who kicked the ball is running.

  4. Let’s Show What We Know! 2. How would we know that a energy transfer takes place with a pot of cold water on a stove? The stove is turned on and the water in the pot changes state The stove is off and water in the pot remains cold The pot of water is moved to the sink and the stove is turned on The stove is unplugged

  5. Let’s Show What We Know! 3. Evidence showed that during the ball/ramp test, a higher drop height resulted in a largerenergy transfer. Why is this? The ball dropped from higher had less energy than a ball dropped from lower The ball dropped from higher was a larger ball than the ball dropped from lower The ball dropped from lower was made of foam, while the ball dropped from higher was steel The ball dropped from higher had more energy than a ball dropped from lower.

  6. Let’s Show What We Know! 4. Describe the following energy transfer that took place using the telegraph. Electrical Energy to Kinetic (motion) Energy Kinetic energy of turning crank transferred to the light energy in the bulb. No kinetic energy since no one turned the crank Electrical energy transferred to the receiving unit’s coil causing the striker to move. The students food’s chemical energy transferred to kinetic energy as the crank was turned. Electrical Electrical Kinetic (motion) Kinetic (motion)
