  1. FIRST – DO THESE STEPS (5 minutes) • Sit down • Open your assignment notebook • Review your tasks listed. • Think about a goal for today. • What did you do yesterday that needs to be improved today? • Identify one action/behavior that needs to be changed to improve your performance today • Ask yourself: • What homework do I have today? • What work is listed that I have completed? • Check off any work already completed. • What do I need to study tonight? • List any materials needed for effective studying Good Morning! Reading: AR Novel Check In (5 minutes) • Take a note card from your team table • Write your name and class period in the upper right hand corner. • Write the title of your AR novel in the first line along the left hand margin. • Put the author’s name after the title. • When your entire team has finished, pass them to the right and bring them to my desk.

  3. Reading – Review My Notes (5 minutes) • Take out your reading notes. Read through them. • Ask yourself: Is there anything I have written that I do not understand? If so… put a “?” in the margin next to that information.

  4. Active Reading Poster (25 minutes) • ACTIVITY: Create a mini-poster including all important information about Active Reading. • Work collaboratively • Make it logical • Make it visually appealing • Make it useful for future reference • Use pencils, crayons, makers and an 8 ½ x 11 piece of blank paper (in team tray). TIME FRAME: You will have 20 Minutes to work with your partner. Plan, be focused, be productive.

  6. Vocabulary (3 minutes) • Flashcards Check-in • Take out note cards, a highlighter, and your vocabulary workbook. • Lay them on your desk with the word facing up. (Teacher will check them in)

  7. Vocabulary (5 minutes) • Introduction of new works • Open your Vocab WB to page 14. Discuss words 6-10 with Ms. Beck.

  8. Vocabulary (10 minutes) • Create flashcards for words 6-10. • Follow requirements as directed yesterday. Vocab Word Graphic Pos – Definition original sentence using spelling word.

  9. 5 Minute Study Strategy(a 15 minutes lesson) Learn how to effectively memorize OODLES of information 5 minutes at a time.

  10. 5 Minutes Study Strategy Objective – to memorize a maximum amount if information in 5 minutes for accurate recall NOTE: for this to be effective you must have a goal, you must be focused, and you need to follow the system.

  11. 5 Minutes Study Strategy Materials Required • Information to be memorized: Note cards, notes, map(s), listed information, graphic organizer • Timer • Paper • Pencil NOTE: for this to be effective you must have a goal, you must be focused, and you need to follow the system.

  12. 5 Minutes Study Strategy Process • Set a goal to memorize a specific amount of information. • Set the time for 3 minutes and review specified information until the timer sounds. • Set the time for 2 minutes and record all the information you just tried to memorize. • Repeat as needed NOTE: for this to be effective you must have a goal, you must be focused, and you need to follow the system.

  13. Let’s Get Started • Take out your flashcards • Your goal: to accurately recall 5 spelling words, spelled correctly without referring back to flashcards.

  14. Set a Timer and Study • CLICK HERE to access timer. • Set timer for 3 minutes

  15. Recall What You Can • Now Set the timer for 2 minutes. • While the clock is counting down: • Write down all the words you can recall • Review them for proper spelling Repeat this process as often as necessary with a newly defined goal each time.
